How Often Should I Change My Filter?

Many times people ask, “How often should I change my filter?” Well, there are many different types of filters available on the market and there are many factors involved when considering the intervals for filter changes. The type of filter needed, the location of return vents, and the environmental conditions around your home or business place are just a few things that will be the determinate of interval for filter changes. In our industry, I have found that the cheap filters, or the “throw aways”, as we like to call them, last about one month, where as a good pleated filter will last about 2-3 months. Here at Heritage HVAC and Mechanical, we offer a wide variety of filter assemblies including: whole space media filters, electronic filters, and HEPA filter assemblies. Going cheap on a filter isn’t always the best idea. A better filter will provide much better quality of air. After all, you wouldn’t want to breathe dirty air all the time, right? My professional opinion is to change a filter at the interval in which it turns from white to a light brown color.  This would ensure you and your family quality of air and peace of mind.
